The barangays of Polomolok, explained

The Reserve teamUpdated June 30, 20265 min read

Polomolok is a municipality in South Cotabato with many barangays, so "meet you in Polomolok" is too vague to be useful. The names worth knowing are Poblacion (the town center), Cannery Site and Cannery (the Dole pineapple and cannery zone), and Silway-7 (out along the national highway). Those four cover where most everyday activity sits.

What is a barangay here?

A barangay is the smallest official unit of local government in the Philippines — a village or district with its own captain and hall. Polomolok has many of them, far more than the handful you will hear about most, and the town does not advertise a tidy public list of every one. So this guide names the barangays you will actually search for and visit, and stays honest about the rest: a local can point you to the smaller ones by name when you need them.

Where is the town center?

Poblacion is the town center of Polomolok — the market, the main commercial strip, and the densest cluster of shops and jeepney stops. If you are arriving from General Santos City about 30 minutes south, Poblacion is where the national highway runs through the heart of town. It tends to be the easiest first stop for newcomers because it is central and simple to reach by jeepney.

Why are there "Cannery" barangays?

The Cannery areas are named for Dole Philippines, whose large pineapple plantation and cannery operation defines this part of Polomolok. Cannery Site and the barangay simply called Cannery grew around that employer, and the names stuck. These are working barangays along and around the national highway, the kind of areas where open-air community sports facilities tend to be.

What about Silway-7?

Silway-7 is a barangay strung along the national highway, a bit further out from the Poblacion core. It is worth knowing because the area runs along the main road out of town, so if you are heading toward something there from the town center, factor in the extra drive. For a midday or hot-afternoon plan, the trade-off is distance against whatever you are heading out for.

Four barangays cover most of what visitors look for. If you can name Poblacion, Cannery Site, Cannery, and Silway-7, you can navigate Polomolok with confidence.

As ReservePolomolok adds venues, each listing will show its barangay and pin its location, so you can see exactly where it sits and what is around it. For the bigger picture of the area, the Mt. Matutum and local guides cover what is beyond the town center.

How many barangays does Polomolok have?
Polomolok is a municipality with many barangays — more than the four most visitors learn first. The town does not publish a clean public list everywhere online, so for an exact current count, check the municipal government's records or ask at the municipal hall in Poblacion. The names you will use most are Poblacion, Cannery Site, Cannery, and Silway-7.
Is Cannery Site the same as Cannery?
They are two separate barangays in Polomolok, both named for the Dole cannery and plantation they grew around. Cannery Site sits near the plantation, while the barangay called Cannery runs along the national highway. Locals use the names loosely, so confirm which one is meant before you drive out.
How far is Polomolok from General Santos City?
Polomolok is roughly 30 minutes north of General Santos City by road on the national highway, and the uplands here run a little cooler than GenSan. The nearest airport is the General Santos airport, about 45 to 60 minutes away. From the airport you pass through GenSan before reaching the Poblacion town center.
Which barangay should I start with?
Poblacion is the easiest first stop — it sits at the town center, holds the public market, and is simple to reach by jeepney. From there, Cannery Site and Cannery are a short ride along the highway, and Silway-7 is a bit further out. Pick by what you are heading there for.
